Hehe, thats me for sure. Boomer that grew up poor could not afford new gear, 
only dreamed of it.
35 yrs later, still not ever owned a brand new Ham radio, more fun fixing up 
the old.

The new stuff could be ticking time bombs as the chips in there are all 
proprietary and only
Ching Lee Sue has access to their designs. Ching Lee is banking on a short 
life span
so you can buy more from Ching Lee. Its not in Ching Lees interests to buld 
long lasting products
for stupid Merica.

So yes, still a very good rep for the boat anchors. Oh they use more power, 
weigh a ton, but have
PROVEN they work and for the long term CAN be fixed and even improved. Heck 
we even have nets
still going for the Swan stuff and the Kenwood Hybrids.

Oh and most important of all, the very first ones were : MADE IN THE USA
something you dont see stated in the electronics world these days.
