The paint Collins used wasn't any old black wrinkle.  Years ago a ham
wrote an article in ER about his KW1 restoration and he was so anal
about it he tracked down the retired Collins paint room foreman and
got the paint formula and manufacturer Collins used and got them to
make the paint again.  Rather than endure that whole root canal, if I
were you I'd ask Bob Sullivan W0YVA for advice.

The really good 1930s black wrinkle like what was found on National
and old J36 bases was done with paint now banned, according to what
I've been told over the years.  But that's not what was on the A Line
gear.  Bob's work & that of Howard Mills can't be distinguished from
the original.
