[Boatanchors] Strange Question Antenna

When building crystal sets, use the highest-quality,
highst "Q" components you can manage.
Even in a "high signal" environment such as having
a large broadcast station within a few miles,
one has little energy to start with and a few ohms
of resistance will eat it quickly. Things like
"double tuning" can reach a point where the introduced
Ohmic losses swamp any benefit.

It can certainly be done. Long ago, as a boy of
about 16 deep in the piney-woods of central Louisiana,
I raised a 200' open horizontal loop about 20 feet
in the air, added another ground rod,
  used a 1N34, 12K imp. phones and,
if I remember right, parts from a scraped "ARC-5"
rig and was able to hear the BBC, HCJB and Radio Havana.
Very cool, and a long way to send 0.3V+ of "magic."
