[Boatanchors] Question About Receiver Design - Crystal Controlled Converters

Scott,
There are many design advantages in the Goodman design over the
traditional HBR design. The ones that immediately come to mind are:
1) Each converter can be optimized (tubes, parts values, AGC,
layout, etc) for the band selected, 2) Converter band switching is
less complicated than LC component switching on a multi-gang
switch, 3) Converters can be build in the order of favorite bands
as well as WARC and 160m, 4) Separate receive antennas and
connections for each band. Some downsides are: greater parts count
and cost, more metal fabrication, more space consumed, more power
consumption if all converters are standing by, etc.
I am sure others will have advantages and disadvantages to share.
It seems to me that a design decision would be down to personal
taste and expectations.
