My wife needed a new cake pan, and when she brought
it home, I was surprised as it looked more like a chassis
than your typical supermarket cake pan.
Made by Magic Line. It has square and welded corners,
vertical sides, and very stiff. She bought a 12x18x2
for 32 dollars at a baking supply store.
So, I bought a 9x13x2 as an experiment, to see if
it could indeed be used as a chassis. Material is
.062 aluminum, square and welded corners, and again, very
stiff.
Started a project. Not sure what the finished item
will be, but whatever it is, it will need a power
supply, right?
No surprises, it drilled and punched as I expected,
taking into account the thickness.
So the only positives appear to be that it is stiffer
than a comparable size chassis, and may be available
locally, rather than mail order. From a quick online
search, it appears that prices are comparable to a
similar size Bud or Hammond chassis.
Negatives.
The flange is a 1/2" wide outward flange, not inward.
Probably could be sawed off if that is an issue.
Limited range of sizes. Only see 2" deep pans, which
might be a bit shallow for some projects.
Makers name and logo are stamped(nicely)on the bottom
of the pan, which becomes the top of the chassis.
Not sure if anyone can make use of this information,
just thought I'd throw it out there.
