I just had an idea for companies like Hayseed Hamfest, concerning "can" electrolytics.
What is needed is a set of just cans, empty, but with "the usual" set of three or four
terminals on the bottom. These would have terminals inside too, and these would be tinned
so you could solder to them.
The key would be that the bottom of the can, like where the little skirt is in the real old caps,
would be hollow and the top part would snap in, like tube shields for miniature tubes. The bumps
would be in the top part. The top part would be aluminum, the bottom would be tinned
or zinc plated steel with a solder tab inside for the ground.
Inside one of these one would simply install modern caps and solder them to the tabs,
then snap on the cover.
I have no idea if the machines that make the current cans could do this easily, but I suspect so.
With these you would not have to kludge restuffing.

If you want the original capacitor then Hayseed Hamfest will build one for
you. Most run in the 30-40 dollar range but is new.
