Hi,
I was sent a reminder that it is illegal to furnish a non amateur
with a transmitter. Although the subject matter included "new hams" and
I gave the call sign of the intended recipient I thought that I should
post a brief intro about myself and clear up any mis-understanding
about my personal qualifications and goals.
First licenced in 1970 as a VE3 with the Peel Amateur Radio Club in
1970, passed the advanced exam in 1970 Skipping all the moves across
the continent and the various call signs, in 1987 we moved to St.
Pierre et Miquelon where I operated VE1KM/FP for years. After years of
trying to get someone to invigilate the French exam the local head of
France Telecom stepped in and oversaw (literally sat across from me and
watched me write the test and do the Morse test) using the limited
French I had learned in the previous few years.
1993 Jan 01 I went on the air with my new call sign FP4EK, which became
FP5EK. Active in the local club, I could be found on HF, 6M, and the
satellites of the time. My preferred radio was the TT Omni-A I bought
new at Dayton in 1979 (which I still have and semi-retired in 2011 when
I bought and built my Elecraft K2/10)
My wife is also licenced as VE8LT, as is my youngest son as VE8TN. We
support local clubs, I'm also a member of RAC, REF, and AMSAT. And
I've been an accredited examiner for several years.
Occupationally, I'm a Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer with the E
(Avionics) rating, I've also developed and taught avionics in a
college. And I've had a couple of articles published in the Canadian
Amateur.
My post retirement ambition is to bring amateur radio to the
communities in the north, where possible in the high schools.
No, I have not been a member of the Quarter Century club.
If there are any other questions about my qualifications or goals I'd
be very happy to answer them, e-mail me directly if you'd like.
