You might be surprised.  I never used a gas heated iron, but I have
some big American Beauties with massive tips, about the size of a golf
ball if not bigger.  I thought they'd be ideal for a UHF male.  They
are so hot that barrel liquefied the RG213 dielectric in no time.
But, when I had to solder a wire splice outside in 30 degree
temperature and wind, it couldn't get enough heat going to do
anything.
