I have a full station TS-830S Gold Edition bought new at Henry Radio in Butler , MO. in 1983 . I still love the rig and accessories . It has been really trouble free other than 1 new set of finals over the years .
The suggestion of the Kenwood Hybrids group is an excellent selection. I have belonged to it for many years since I also have a TS-520 that was a little of a project rig when I first bought it several years back .
This is the best group I have ever belonged to for knowledge and being friendly and willing to help . The people on this group know these rigs so well they can work on them in their sleep .
I can not count over the years how many people , some of whom had literally no electronics experience , that they have patiently talked through getting them working and then into full blown operating stations that meet all of the specs . I can not say enough good things about their knowledge and willingness to help others !!
I didn't need a lot of help since I have been a ham for almost 55 years and always repaired my own older gear . However they can save you hours of troubleshooting to get you to just what you need to know to resolve your problem .
Yes I have the newer rigs with all of the bells and whistles that come with menus and settings and almost requiring a computer just to update and operate . The TS-830S is still my favorite "go to" rig to operate in todays ham radio worlds , and still enjoy being in charge of some of the controls and functions of what the rig does ..
Please let us know what you find out . Always nice to add an actual repair to the knowledge database .
Good Luck & Best 73 ,
