[Boatanchors] Is there a better way ?

It happens---when you have a tight tuning slug/core in a coil and
you break off half of the screwdriver slot on the brass threaded
shaft. . When it's impossible to replace slug or cut another slot ,my
solution was to find a brass nut that fits or partially (preferably)
screws over the damaged shaft, heat up the soldering iron and quickly
apply a liberal dose of solder into the hole.
I figured that sufficient solder bonding to the nut and the unbroken
side of the brass shaft tuning slot, would allow sufficient torque
to allow a spin tight to move the slug without damage----thus
preserving a degree of equilibrium in the workspace !
Seems to work for me . Any better suggestion , apart from dismantling
the offending item for possible replacement?
Cheers
