[Boatanchors] G.R. 1606 A Bridge Question

I have owned both GR 1606 and GR 916 impedance bridges. I never opened up either of the 1606s. However, I did open up the 916 because the resistor you described was open.

>From my research, GR made their own non-inductive resistor, using very fine gauge manganin alloy wire. Rather than attempt to duplicate what GR had done, I bought a one percent, 330 ohm, non-inductive resistor and substituted it. I measured some loads with known resistance and reactance and was satisfied with the results. I do not recall where I obtained the resistor, but the price was reasonable.

The General Radio RF Bridge manual parts illustration shows a picture of the location of bridge resistor R-3,a 330 ohm wire wound resistor, looking like a piece of plexiglass mounted on an L-Bracket with a solder lug on it. It reads capacitance but is open in resistance. Is this actually a resistor? Special made.? Thanks, Al, W4TUK
