Hello All,
I hate to admit it but this has happened to me twice in my 53 years of being a ham....
I was first licensed in 1966 at the age of 14 and the first incident was sometime around 1967 after upgrading to General. I was working on my newly acquired HT-37 which has the notorious uncaged HV section. My hand brushed by the 6146 plate caps and I got the shock of my life!. It threw me back on the floor.
I never forgot that and have been very careful ever since........
But recently (within the past couple of months) - fast forward to age 67 and recently working on a restored Central Electronics 20A exciter. The unit was opened up, powered on and sitting on its side. I was checking tube voltages on this relatively low voltage unit when I decided that I should use my tube extender on top (one of those tube extensions with probe points). Anyways, power on, I pulled the tube grabbed the extender and plugged it in with my fingers touching the probes. Got a little shock, but a reminder from 1967.
Regards,
Alan, WB2FZC

Glad this had a better than deadly ending, Dave. I was there once. Thrown about ten feet across the room, and was lucky to come to with everything still intact — and nothing more than a couple of nasty burns.
All it takes is one tiny slip of mind …
