(1) "Not-your-daddy’s” 51J-4 — fully restored with cabinet, 4:1 tuning, Dallas Lankford SSB mods (published in Hollow State Newsletter), and in addition to the stock filters, a 9 KHz filter for AM (sometimes used with a Sherwood sync adapter that Rob mod’d to be switchable between 455KHz and 500 KHz for me). I don’t think there’s a mark on the radio. This replaced an R-390A and an R-390 as my main radios, and I never looked back.
(2) GPR-90/GSB-1/GSP-1 (also with the Sherwood, on occasion).
The first one is my favorite … the second is (IMO) the prettiest 2-dial radio ever made. And works much better than it’s usually given credit for — superb build quality, stable, nice audio, gorgeous, a real pleasure to use.
Everyone has a preference …. these are mine, after about 60 (some more than once) 1950-1970’s radios that have lived in my shack over the last 30 years. If I had to part with either of them, I’d probably have a seizure. Neither is a “perfect” radio … but none of them were/are perfect :-)
