Brad,
I don’t have any actual experience with the Signal Sentry, but looking at the instructions I downloaded in the past, it operates as a sidetone generator on CW using a neon bulb audio relaxation oscillator and on phone it envelope detects the transmitted signal so you can monitor an AM signal. It isn’t useful for hearing CW keying characteristics nor for SSB, and you will need to use headphones for AM to avoid audio feedback to the microphone. If you need to know more about it, the instructions should still be available on line.
