[Boatanchors] Nasty stuff on front panel

I just picked up a reallly nice Sprague TO-6A TelOhmike in excellent
condition for nearly nothing.?? I was able to clean up the case with some
light buffing with 0000 steel wool and some Goo-Gone.?? After wiping it
down with Armor-All, it looks as good as new.

The front panel is a different story.?? It looks like someone has used
some kind of nasty varnish or coating to try to protect the lettering on
the front panel, but the stuff ran down the panel in streaks and in some
places, there are globs of the stuff.. Granted, it doesn't affect the
operation of the unit (other than the fact that it's all over the
plastic center dial) but it really looks awful.?? I'm really scared to
try to get off with a scraper or normal solvents.?? There was an Eico 324
signal generator from the same guy with the same glop slopped all over
the front panel. I totally screwed up the panel trying to get off, and
now I'm going to have to find a junker Eico 324 to cannibalize the front
panel from.

Does anyone have any ideas??? Acetone is out!?? That removes the
lettering!?? Goo-Gone doesn't touch the stuff.

Anyone have an old "parts" Eico 324 they could spare the front panel from?

Thanks!
