[Boatanchors] Yaesu FRDX 400 Receiver

I posted this to the Yaesu group and thought I'd try here as well.....

 

I picked up a Yaesu FRDX 400 at a Hamfest last week and have been able to
get it going after many years of sitting.

 

I'm not overly familiar with this radio and I have a couple of questions for
those that have one of these.

 

The first is the audio. It seems that I need to have the AF gain control at
about 60% to get usable audio.  

 

Second question, it seems that the S Meter is very stingy. I have the S
Meter sensitivity pot at max and I can get slightly over S9 on strong SSB
signals.  Is this "normal?"

 

ALL voltages are on the money. I did replace cathode resistors in both IF
tubes - 6BA6's and that brought the gain up, and all other circuits seem to
be OK.
