Good Afternoon All,
Yesterday I spent seven hours working with a friend on a basket
case 2B. He had purchased is a an Antique radio auction some time ago.
After reworking (well removing) the solid state power supply mods, fixing
a few, well many wiring errors, finding out tubes were in the wrong
location, testing the tubes, finding a replacement 6X4 we were able to
get the Old Girl running. After about a half hour, the radio starting
pooping fuses. Turns out the 6X4 developed a filament to plate short. So
put another 6X4 in. Still no signals. tracing lead us to the 6BF6 (dual
diode, triode). Now not having one of those on hand, and a quick check of
data sheets, we found that a 6AV6 will work, put has to much gain. So the
AVC is not working as it should. But the radio now works. Going to order
a new 6BF6 today. Is this tube only used in Drake tube radio's. Can't
seem to find any this else that use's it. Also if anyone has a 2B, and
could take a good photo of the Dial string placement, that they could
send me it would a great help. I have a manual, but the illustration is
not the greatest. Thanks.
