Now that it's been 2 days since Austin Summerfest, I've had a chance to reflect and came to the conclusion that I'm glad I was able to restrain myself and not buy up all those Boatanchor deals I listed previously. I will have to admit that I did buy one other item.....a Knight Kit tube tester for $5 (and it works) which will be handy for a quick check if I don't want to dig out and set up my TV-2. I do have one question about the Hallicrafters 5R10A. Is the original bezel painted grey or chromed or do some people just polish off the paint so it looks like it's beenchromed ? All the black paint and lettering is really excellent. 73 Kees K5BCQ

I just got back from Austin Summerfest, good turnout, lots of stuff. It looked pretty crowded and there were plenty of sellers and buyers (my opinion). Richard Cobb and his overalls were there and this time he brought his wife. He has apparently decided to divest himself of some collection subsets. He had 14 Swan 350 radios with 16 matching 117XC power supplies, all with the latest upgrade packages installed. They were all $150 per set "asking price". He sold some. Richard decided to hold onto his Swan 700 Series collection subset. He said he had earlier sold his HT-37 collection subset. Wonder how many of those he had.....said he sold them for $40 each .....buy one and get one free. The best boatanchor deal I saw was a ham from San Antonio who was selling a very nice HQ-129X for $35, Hallicrafters S38C for $20, Hallicrafters S38-D for $10, Hallicrafters 5R10A for $10, Hammarlund HQ-100 $30, Hallicrafters S40B $25 or $30, and a lots of similar gear under the table, some from the 30's. Friday all those items stayed on/under his table with lots of lookers. Friday evening some of them were finally sold (Bill took the S38 units, I picked up the 5R10A.....but that was all). Saturday they were all gone in about an hour and he left the swapmeet. There was a time when I would have bought them all at those prices (it's a disease). He even agreed to carry them out for you. Apparently the S40B didn't really sell and he gave it to some friends who promptly relisted it for $100 and it was gone "again" Saturday at about 11AM. Cliff had 4 of the Heathkit "monobanders" and a power supply for $50 total and he said he was NOT taking them back home. They lasted until about 11AM on Saturday and I don't know if he got his $50. Cliff and I had dueling ICOM 706MKII-G units for sale (mine had more extras) and they both sold for $400. each. 73 Kees K5BCQ
