I forgot to add that if the "spare" fuse is controlled by the ignition
switch (so that the radio will only work with ignition on, there is in most
cases a relay actually supplying voltage to the fuse. In most cars, if the
car did not originally come with the option that the fuse was for, the relay
is probably not installed. So you will also have to purchase and install
the relay. That was true in my previous Land Rover, and is true in the
present one.
If the fuse is hot with ignition off, you will have to never forget to turn
off the radio when you shut down the engine. Else you may come out the next
day to a dead battery. That may or may not be true of the cigar lighter or
12V socket.

Subject: [Boatanchors] BMW Mini Automobile Radio Installation query
Hello;
I recently purchased a Mini (made by BMW) automobile and want to
install a mobile VHF & UHF radio.
I used to use cigarette lighter jack in another car. That did not work well
due to contact resistance problem.
My question is;
where is the best spot to tap a 13.8V DC to use a mobile radio?
Current draw is about 7A max for the radio.
Thanks in advance.
