Hi,

I know some hams who carry an independent battery like a marine deep
cycle battery to power the mobile radio. They recharge the battery
separate from the car. If you are going to be on a transcontinental
motor trip and you talk a lot it will be better to connect right AT the
car battery. You may have to install an in-line noise filter with the
car battery. Don't bother with that if it works okay without one. If you
hear your instruments, ignition, fuel pump, windshield wipers, etc
install a filter that can handle your 7 Amps on transmit.
