[Boatanchors] Eddystone 680X?

I remember as a soon to be Novice in the late 50's walking into Harrison Radio in NYC and playing with the Eddystone dial. I can't recall if it was part of the receiver or just the dial on display. It was the smoothest tuning dial ever, fondly remembered to this day.

They're great Eugene, that
Eddystone dial makes it the ultimate
bandscanner - that weighted tuning dial
provides good bandspread and
what I would
say is the smoothest "feel" of any receiver.
Performance is
good for a receiver designed
in the early 50s, and it's stable enough
for SSB using the BFO and the old fashioned
method of tuning. The tubes
are available
although all I've had to do is one minor repair.
There's
a good website here:

One thing that may not be
apparent from looking at the pictures is how
heavy it is - 47 pounds! I remember buying
mine from the club table at
a hamfest and
groaning while carrying it to my car after seriously
underestimating how much it would weigh.
