Gary,
The next step is to cut a thin sliver of scotch tape, hold it in a pair
of tweezers, and carefully "go fishing" in the gap between the moving
coil and the magnet. This often does the trick, especially if it's a
piece of magnet debris that's hard to blow away. You can blow on the
needle to see if it moves freely.
Oil is a bad bet.
