[Boatanchors] Sticky meter movement...

I am resurrecting a Central Electronics 100V transmitter. It has been in storage for decades.
The panel meter has a sticky movement. It is of the d’Arsonval type. When the meter pointer swings upscale it tends to hang. Tapping the front of the case will return the pointer back to the vicinity of zero.
I have opened the case and everything looks squeaky clean. Nonetheless, I used gentle amounts of dusting gas in the event that a tiny particle in the wrong place was causing drag. The pointer is not touching the scale plate at any point. There is no indication that moisture has been a factor.
I will not do anything further, until I feel that I will not exacerbate the problem. For instance, watch oil, applied with a toothpick, may cause more trouble. Also, any attempt to adjust the front pivot or bearing may be counterproductive.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
