[Boatanchors] QST Resizing

Same here. I am a life member but I spend around 10 minutes looking
at QST, usually the SK list, the "X years ago in QST..." sections, and
the classic radio column and after that pitch it in the trash. The
only reason I am still a LM is because if you aren't some kind of
member, then ARRL has an excuse to ignore you if you have a complaint
with them about something.
Yes QEX is what they say when someone complains about the lack of
tech. content in QST, but why should I have to pay extra for what used
to be in QST? And anyway, the current tech. content, usually writing
code for something called an Arduino, or a new super low noise preamp
for ten zillion GHz, interests me inversely proportional to the
frequency. And I don't consider writing code for anything to be radio
technology.
To be fair, QST has had some tube and vintage attempts lately. They
seem to be supporting AM more under the new management and Bob Heil's
AM transmitter with tubes pine board article was good. Yes, it is low
power but it is tubes and AM and maybe that was all they could get to
publish. W1AW is transmitting on AM now on 40 m., and Hq. has a
K7DYY Super Senior rig which they reviewed in QST. None of this was
possible a few years ago under the old regime.
