I have done that a few times with local repair shops that were closing up.
Usually the vendor has already unloaded anything they thought was of any
value and are quite happy to get almost any amount of cash for the
remainder rather than disposing of it at zero dollars return and/or paying
a disposal fee.
Last one was an A/V service shop - older stuff -nothing digital -
projectors, amps, mics already gone - I picked up a LOT of NIB projection
lamps of all vintages (yes, there is a specific market for these), assorted
connectors and adapters, miscellaneous mechanical parts and electronic
components and a few pieces of test equipment. Still sorted into their
parts bins and easily boxed up to haul. No lenses of any sort, but with
patience and scouting around was able to sell off most at a profit. Biggest
hurdle is/was the time and storage involved.
