Thanks for all the information....I think the replacement plate will work just fine after I go through the alignment. I was just puzzled why the different dials and with your information I have a better idea.
Thanks,

    Bill,

Actually, there were two different tuning or dial scales used over the production life of the TCS.  I don't recall the exact details as the only example of the early one that I had was sent to Australia for a TCS-4 restoration.  But the early sets (I think including TCS-5 because I think that was what I salvaged a dial from)) had as best I can recall only the logging and the 1.5 to 3.0 scales.  The 3.0 to 6.0 and 6.0 to 12.0 scales were added I think at TCS-6 (one of the non-Collins models), which also added the handles and the easily removable front panel.

You should be able to use something like Goo Gone to remove the paper scale from the original TCS-5 dial without damaging the aluminum.  Why the replacement dial is off a MC I couldn't say.  Your guess is as good as any.  Have you tried re-aligning the oscillator to match the new dial?

You may remember I changed out the frequency scale on our TCS5 that had an overlay glued to a disk. We have a TCS12 parts rig I was able to pull a nice clean frequency scale plate and install it in the TCS5. One of the guys noticed that the scales were different for band 0, the logging scale. I checked the frequency of all three bands and they are off about a Mhz or so. I suspect the person that installed the scale made from an overlay, adjusted the oscillators to get somewhat close to the frequencies on the dial. That's my theory, since I believe all of the model TCS's use the same dial plate.

I hope everyone can follow this. The overlay scale that was installed was printed on pa per and glued. It was faded so bad it was unusable.

Have I missed something here?

Thanks In Advance,
