[Boatanchors] [ARC5] Removing Knob White Stuff?

Hi Jim!  Yes it is like the  plastic  de-polymerizes   ??
My teletype 31's  keys seem to exhibit it the most.. Do not know if  it
is the plastic's consistency or...  if because  it was a 31   got  stowed 
in 
an off the way  cruddy  hot  place?
 
I am NOT familiar  with  Bakelite  doing this   though.
Kudos to the person that warned about  407 on Bakelite.
The only  trick I ever  found to make it glossy after some
one 409'ed it was  to   apply a thin coat of  glossy to  the  knob. 
This only works  really well though when the item is behind  glass
on display, as if  you were to use the knob any amount the gloss would  
wear though.
