be careful what you use to clean with because if they are bakelite
knobs and you use Formula 404 or something similar it will eat the
sheen off and the bakelite will be rough and there is no way to put it
back.  There are stories of guys wrecking collins escutcheons (i can't
believe I spelled that right) using cleaners like 404.

Armour All is good on bakelite but I don't know if it will deal with
the ooze or not.
