[Boatanchors] Lysco Antenna Loading

Tnx Perry and Brian for suggestions and info. So far have added
external caps, fixed and variable, both in series and parallel
to gnd and no improvement (40m ok w/o help...but added capacitance
did give a few more ma above 100 or so). I am wondering if they may
have intended it to either drive an amp direct or use the Model 50
coupler, which connects to a single wire fed antenna. The 'manual'
does say it is designed to operate into a 50 ohm imped. to ant. or
PA. Also says if operated into a long wire ant, it is suggested to
use the Mod. 50. I have the Mod. 50 so may string up a 100 or so
foot of wire and see what it does with the coupler. I will also
continue to cobble up a large amt of capacitance to hang off the
output. I also have the 250w Johnson Match box, which I can try.
Plenty of items to work with. Tnx agn and the Lysco will live on
even if only on 40.

Bill: The Lysco rigs used a low Z tap off the plate tank coil.
Lysco also made L/C antenna tuners to help their rigs
         tune random loads.

I would recommend a transmatch to help you with
your 80M situation. You might also check your
antenna with an analyzer. Lastly, there may be a
problem with one of the bandswitch wafers that
change the tap for each band.

If you have not yet looked at the 807 amplifier section
underneath the chassis, this is where the two plate
tank coils are. One is for 160/80 and the other is
for 40 through 10. If your amp stage has overheated
at any time during the last 66 years, the tank coil stock
may have sagged, causing a problem.

Keep the Lysco going... it was a unique rig for it's
time. And you can't beat that huge dial. :-)
