I remember that very well. I read and re-read QST several times to make sure I understood the rules because it was sort of unbelievable. Right after January 1 1976 I got on 20 meter RTTY from the Milwaukee School of Engineering W9HHX using the call AC9HHX. At the time “AC” was Tibet. W9HHX was running a pair of Drake 4B twins, driving a Collins 30S-1 to maximum power, into a Hygain TH6DXX up on the roof of the school. That station was heard all around the world. Anyway, I called CQ on RTTY and it was bedlam as everyone was trying to contact the AC9 in “Tibet". Boy were they bummed when they found out it was just me from ole Milwaukee Wisconsin using the special event call sign.. hi hi It was fun while it lasted. By the way, the Drake T-4XB drove the 30S-1 to maximum power easily, and that 30S1 ran full power on RTTY with no problems.
