[Boatanchors] seeking ebay seller advice

We buy a lot over the years but sell seldom. When we have marked it
for parts etc.. when selling. with no return. so far only one AH and
the worse he could do is leave bad feedback.

I found it interesting as the years progressed how EBAY would tighten
up and restrict sellers rights... well there are some bad sellers out
there and even people selling stuff they did not even have.

In the early days you could view much more info on the people that
were out there... you could see who actually won auctions which made it
easier to track shills... I found the nice thing was abut seeing who all
was bidding is you found new friends to talk with that were interested in
the same thing too.. you could look people up without a transaction
with them... of course there were people that abused this and harassed
people so that feature went away...

on the freight issue you said...
"The fact that they also charge a fee on the shipping cost is also a
ripoff."

Yea it does not seem fair..
.The reason for this change of charging fees was sellers abusing
things... they would sell something for $1 but charge $70 to ship it so
as to have to only pay fee on the $1 amount.... and pity the poor
soul that did not read the shipping amount when bidding.... SURPRISE!

Yes EBAY likes fees likes making more money... but may of the
policies that have evolved have been due to seller abuse ... revenge feedback
wars.... all sorts of things... that have changed the way things are done.

I am pretty safe in stating that 99 percent of changes came about due to
 people abusing things.

It is just too bad that these changes also end up working for the bad
 people and against good sellers...

In any retail environment you always have a certain percentage of 'evil
buyers' no matter if in an online environment such as ebay or back when
we had a computer company. Once you identify a customer like this you
just refuse to do business with them. There are a features in ebay to
handle this. I have only done this twice.

Another thing you can do that allows you to sort of... pick and choose
who gets to buy your thing is set the buy it now price HIGH... accept
best offers and if it is from a ID of someone that has been abusive, just...
DECLINE THE OFFER!

Just some random thoughts....

Most of the people I met on EBAY were just fine and some even have
become great friends of mine.
Just be cautious, don't leave loopholes for bad people but if it a
good person with a legitimate complaint help them out.. BUT if they are
truly evil.... What is that old revered Klingon saying...

Hi Paul,
I agree with Robert, you're probably doomed. All the buyer has to do
is file a "claim", and ebay will take your money back and hold it ransom
until you take it back and they return the $. They only seem to be
interested in the result that neither party ends up with both the
merchandise and the money. But only if the buyer is satisfied.
At the moment, if he hasn't filed an official claim, you may be able to
resolve it with him.
I went thru a long process with a similar problem, it was a big Icom SS
amp. I had stated that I'd tested it on all bands, but didn't say I
hadn't gotten the WARC bands. It wouldn't load up without tripping the
breaker on one band, and he filed a claim. I ended up paying shipping
to and from an ICOM svc facility. They said it was OK. The guy did
finally accept it.
I don't think I've sold on ebay since then. The fact that they also
charge a fee on the shipping cost is also a ripoff.
YMMV, 73,

and performed way above my expectations. I listed it accordingly with 12
pictures, full description and NO RETURNS with best offer accepted.

if he would pack it in the same boxes (yes it was even double boxed) return

checked the radio for damage or missing parts. I have heard nothing in reply.

of the buyer protection policy all a buyer has to claim is not as
advertised and the seller is expected to pay the return shipping AND give full
credit or risk a dispute with ebay that could affect seller ratings. And if I
don’t furnish the prepaid shipping label ebay will step in and do that.
