Thanks, Mark! That's really what I needed to know. It seemed to me that there'd be little reason to complain about the meter banging around if people knew it could be turned off, so I was wondering if somehow that feature had been left out of the instructions.

I finished working on an AT-1 (Novice Rig) a few months ago.
The center position is indeed OFF as the meter is undamped and bangs around if in the Ip or Ig positions.
Yes it’s in the manual (at least the one I have/had....).
