 By the way - some have asked about source and manufacturer. To the best of
my knowledge these "tubesters" were produced by General Instrument in the
80's and are NOS. Just pull the thermatron 6X4 and plug the SS 6X4 in.

 Saves you 600 mA in filament current thereby reducing the load on the
transformer.

Also helps to reduce heat and power supply B+ voltage "sag".
