This is probably not the right list to post on but it can't hurt.
Perhaps someone knows of a better venue.
I have a Radio Shack Realistic DX-300 receiver. It's not a new
receiver by any means, but it's not toobs either. Anyway, it's really
deaf. I can hear a few amateur AM power stations but not much else. I
think it took a lightning hit at some point before my ownership. It's
also got a few other issues that I don't know if they can be fixed or
not.
I also have another DX-300 that has a really hot front end but the
preselector tuning section doesn't work properly otherwise it works
well. You just have to turn the gears manually from inside, the knob
just slips. This means you can't secure the case properly, you have to
leave it unscrewed for access to the gears inside. I'd like to swap
the preselector sections because the deaf preselector works well.
This repair is beyond me, anyone know where I can have this done? I
can't find anywhere local to do it, I guess I'll have to ship them
out. I have the service manual for it. It's also available online.
I just don't want to pay more to fix these things than it will cost to
just replace them with something better. Unfortunately I don't have
room in my rack for a real BA I've only got 4 spaces left and the
DX-300 fits perfectly on a 4 space shelf. (Apartment life.)
Preferably I'd like to find something solid state that fits in 3 or 4
spaces that is designed to mount in a rack. It doesn't have to be
state of the art. Unfortunately the budget is tight too. ePay sellers
want top dollar for such devices. Even for something designed in the
seventies or eighties.
I forget how much I paid for this DX-300, but I got ripped off that's for sure.
