Ernie, carefully measure the DC resistance of the primary windings, as that
will give you an idea of their characteristics. Then you could connect a
winding at a time to a Variac and bring up the primary voltage while
measuring the secondary AC voltage.
I use an old Thordarson xfmr in my 813 G-G amp, and that's how I determined
the correct primary winding for my application. Ditto for my 4-PR400A
amplifier.
Needless to say, you must be careful, as the secondary develops very high
levels of AC. Always use precautionary measures around HV. Be sure to
connect your ac voltmeter leads prior to energizing the transformer, and
only remove them after you have removed AC from the primary.
