[Boatanchors] WE 407 and 408 tubes

You're not too far off, Rob. Dunno about an outright 807, but WE did make a rough equivalent of the 6L6G(B? C?) in the 350B. I was looking through the 6L6 section of Tube De(s)pot recently, and spotted this listing:

Spoiler alert: $1,195 apiece! By comparison, the much-vaunted RCA 'Black-plate' 6L6GC sells for $199.95, and the even-more-vaunted Genalex/Gold Lion KT66 is a relative bargain at $349.95. I think I'll stick with the modern-production stuff, myself...

As for the 407A and 408A, I've heard of the 407A being used in preamp designs. Here's an example of a design using them:

The 408A is a remote-cutoff pentode, so there's less of a call for it in audio designs, but perhaps there are RF applications. I got several examples of both in with a bunch of industrial-type tubes, and have yet to do anything with them, though they don't sell for the sort of prices the more-famous WE tubes sell for (the 6.3V versions are the 396A and 6AK5, respectively; the 396A sells for several times what the 407A tends to go for).

Sure. They have WESTERN ELECTRIC stamped on their bases.

If "Western Electric" is engraved, they have super extra magical
characteristics.

If WeCo made 807s, a regular RCA 807 might be 10 or 15 bucks. If
there were a WeCo 807, the prices would start at $500 and go up.
