[Boatanchors] Datong FL3 question

Here's an update. The problem I was experiencing was a user error. The FL3 is just superb.

Between the top two LED lamps is a small push button which was depressed. It's not easy to tell whether it is out or in and having not used one before, I did not think to turn it off. It is the "Auto Notch" on/off control. When depressed, it seizes on any incoming tone and given some time, eliminates it. So when a strong cw signal was coming in, the Auto Notch was trying to handle it as if it were a momentary key down.

For anyone getting up in years and happens to find an FL3, I wanted to mention this.

Its also a great audio front end for any transceiver. I have been testing it on my K2 and my ICOM 7410 and its like having new transceivers. I first noticed the improvement in audio when I put my old Idiom Press SCAF-1 filter on my K2. The harshness of the DSP disappeared and the soft audio background of a fine quiet receiver came to life. I heartily recommend either one to you guys who have not tried it. And, the FL3 is so fast to tune compared to push button menus that you won't believe the convenience.

I did not get any input on this but still wanted to let the curious know what happened.

Cheers,

Subject: Datong FL3 question

I'm trying out a Datong FL3 filter which seems to have a very supportive

following but I seem to be doing something wrong using it.

I will tune in a simple, nice, strong cw signal and then cut the filter in to

see how it works. The problem is that the received signal almost immediately

degrades into a fluttering, like something is over loaded or motor boating.

When I turn the fiter off, the signal is fine.

I've experimented with volume controls both AF & RF and that does not seem

to help. The FL3 just has switch positions (cw vs ssb) and bandwidth adjustments.

Has anyone an idea what might be going on ?
