[Boatanchors] Has anyone ever cut the glass top off a miniature tube to re-use the base?

Yes, and old organs frequently have salvageable audio amplifiers in them.
Usually in the 20-30 watt range.
Sometimes tube, and sometimes sand state. Usually push pull and decent sounding.
