Watching my spectrum analyzer that samples at 255 Msample/sec with 16-bit
output, I see many AM stations on 80 meters occupying 20-kHz of bandwidth.
Of course both sidebands are identical and carry the same information!
BTW, I occasionally run a Viking Valiant and HQ-180 on AM.
