It isn't simply civility.
The concept of an "AM Window" was a "Gentleman's" agreement only, and a suggestion.
One can go back to 1956 and look at the FCC rules and regulations. Nothing in them contained this term.
At that time, 11mtrs was an Amateur Radio band.
Should this be your original call, then you obtained your license after I did, as my original was KA4PBD.
Even at that time frame the "AM Window" was a "Gentleman's" agreement only, and a suggestion.
At no time was it cast in stone.
This is a continual misconception with regard to the use of the Band plans. This is constantly perpetuated with no basis in Part 97.
We as the Amateur Radio Operator Community, need to remember these factoids. We desire to have a specific home for AM, yet there is not a designated segment of any of the bands that is dedicated to AM only.
The entirety is more civil to get along amongst this Community, rather than the constant squawking and complaining. It would serve our Community far better to shift our frequency in lieu of constant QRM fighting on the air by carriers intentionally transmitted in an attempt to drive others from the frequencies that the AM Community keeps trying to arbitrarily hold for only that mode.
Even the Subject line is derogatory all by itself! Doing nothing more than to cross into name calling that isn't beneficial.
The Amateur Radio Frequency Allocation has no mode restraints in any band other than designated CW/RTTY portions that are laid out clearly, and have the License Class a determining factor as to where this falls.
One could even turn the wick up over the legal limits, only resulting a flame war on the air. These actions "will" eventually become detrimental to the hobby by drawing far too much attention to these shenanigans than we need.
The civil manner to display is adjusting one's frequency such that cooperation results, rather than grousing and squawking in the current manner that is becoming the norm rather than the exception.
As I posted much earlier in this thread, this situation will continue for the duration of this year.
I would propose that we support this once in a 100 year Anniversary, than to end up as an archived topic that indeed becomes one that will turn up as a searchable subject for many decades.
This is simply my humble opinion, and carries no more weight than the entire thread does.
It really gives pause to sit back, contemplate the very minor issue, then put fingers to the keyboard with terminology that does not berate the entire Community.
Simply my $0.02 worth, and you get more thought provoking concepts, in lieu of an added bit of needless grousing.
This will continue this entire year. One's blood pressure would be better served by a calmer written view over the jumping on a band wagon that has taken on a venom filled content right off the start.
I'd certainly use a topic more along the line of "Points to ponder", instead of the current path and tone.
YMMV, and this is only one conceptual take on the entirety.
Regards,
Bob Bethman
