It could very well have been an earlier version I was remembering.
The one I remember was smaller and didn't have the gray line moving
across the map and the times were shown through little cutouts with
numbers mechanically rotating with time.   Of course in 1970 they
didn't have liquid crystal color displays.   For 1700 dollars you can
probably get a monitor screen,  hang it on a wall, buy a dinky cheap
PC and use it to run some software (I used to have a program that did
that map/gray line/time display) that does the same thing and save
around $1200.
