[Boatanchors] eBay scam?

My one experience with the Global Shipping Program was not good. A buyer in
Australia won one of my items on eBay. The shipping charge shown to him
during the bidding process, and to other international bidders, was to a GSP
shipper in Kentucky. eBay prevented me from sending him an invoice, saying
that it would be automatically sent to him by the GSP shipper. The invoice
that the GSP shipper sent to him included the cost of the item, the shipping
charge from me to KY and an extra charge for shipping from KY to Australia.
This latter charge was more than the USPS charge for shipping the item
directly from me to the buyer. The buyer withheld payment and filed a
complaint with eBay. We finally settled the issue by dropping the GSP and
the buyer agreeing to pay me directly via PayPal for shipping directly from
me to Australia via USPS international first class package.

1. The shipping charge shown to international buyers was, at least
misleading, in that it did not show the total shipping charge. This was
unfair to prospective bidders.

2. The total shipping charge via the GSP was more than the charge for
shipping via USPS.

3. The only advantage to the seller, that I can see, is that he doesn't
have to fill out the customs forms.
