  Absolutely correct.   There is a very active Tower Talk reflector and 
the "prime directive" cited often there is:

1. ALWAYS do what the manufacturer says to do.
2.  NEVER do things the manufacturer doesn't say to do.

Good advice IMHO and really, just common sense.
