I have found that  by rotating the  switch from the back of the panel you can usually loosen the knurled nut without having to use pliers.

Where did you find a tool to deal with the front panel nuts on toggle switches?  I have seen them in old catalogs but have never been able to find a contemporary source.  These nuts are easily marred if pliars are used.
