On pp 250-251, of the fourth edition of the Radiotron Designer’s Handbook, the procedure for measuring the impedance of an inductor carrying DC.
This would allow one to make a good estimate as to what capacitance would be needed to resonate a particular filter choke at 120 Hz.
The last paragraph on page 251 states that most of this type of work is carried out empirically (experimentally).
