There were instrument cabinets that fit the AR-88 and SP-600 its
possible this is one. Does it have the conical support tubes in the
back that fit into the holes in the AR-88 chassis. If not it may be from
something else that just happens to fit.
As far as heavy rust goes it might be possible to remove it with
repeated treatments of rust remover like Naval Jelly but more likely you
will have to remove it with a wire brush. Rust is a sort of infection
and any left on the metal will tend to spread unless treated with some
form of passivator. Rustoleum is supposed to work this way. I have
seen sheet metal that was completely rusted through. About all that can
be done is to remove the surface rust and patch the holes with metal
sheets and strong cement like JB weld.
Do you have the L shaped trim pieces that go in the front? They
are sort of clamps that work with the mounting screws.
