Well, if I had to guess, I would say that you are about to hear many cabinet variants for that radio. So I'll throw mine in. This one is I am certain absolutely original. It has a piano-hinged lid with a finger hole to pull it open. There are no louvers on the sides.73 de N3RHT

Re: the AR-88.
Some dummy left this receiver on its side in a wet basement.
It obviously sat in about an inch of water for a long time.
Leaving radios in a wet basement
should be punishable by flogging.
The chassis and circuits were saved by a thick coat of MFP.
They're in decent, recoverable shape.
The cabinet is very heavily rusted.
Here's the first of what will surely be many questions:
The cabinet is heavy- about 10-15 lbs. It fits the receiver
like a glove. It has the side louvers. But it does NOT have
the hinged lid on the top- it's solid.
I can have the cabinet sand-blasted and repair any rust-
through with Bondo before painting, but don't want to
spend time and money on a non-original cabinet.
Has anyone ever seen an AR-88 cabinet
without a hinged top?
