Then what starts as an 8.5 x 11 will occupy about 11 x 14
of an 11 x 17 page.

When reproduced on an 11 x 14 page, you can fold at the 8.5
point from the left side and you can put that folded page
easily in a 3-ring binder.

We had a printer that would do that at the FAA where I worked
for 16 years until I retired in 2010 and I enlarged many
compressed schematics with that method.

The HP foldouts are generally 11 x 17

      Some
copy/printing shops can take the small page and enlarge it to
          a usable size.

Enlarging an 8.5 by 11 by
abut 28% can get you to an 11 by 14.

        What size is an original
          foldout schematic?

        Some copy shops might have
machines to get you up to widths of 22"

or more. That would get you
          a foldout of approximately 22 by 28.

There are two possible outcomes: if the result confirms the hypothesis, then you've made a measurement.
If the result is contrary to the hypothesis, then you've made a discovery.
