Jim, (and the rest.),
The biggest "rave" regarding HAKKO is the desoldering system.
Pace was the top of that tree back in the '80s.
It is all in the vacuum system used and the ease of maintenance.
I'm still in the Weller, Ungar, and now a Surface Mount Station.
I recently obtained a Weller 100. Some times old things do suffer from
lack of tips.
I only went to the Surface Mount Station in self defense. Since I am
now running a "plastic radio", I refuse to be hostage to insane labor
rates! I can troubleshoot the issue, and do my own work.
When it comes to desoldering, I still use solder suckers, and very
infrequently, solder wick.
Otherwise, I'll be found on the bench with the old fashioned methodology!
