[Boatanchors] Cell Phones

Cingular (formerly various Bell mobile phone networks) has always been part of AT&T, AFAIK.

Many years ago, I bought SW Bell Mobilephone Nokia phones and the next day (a Super Bowl Sunday) it became Cingular!

It's been AT&T for quite a few years now. The only time I've had dropouts has been in remote, hilly areas of NE Oklahoma near the MO border.

I have no idea why Consumer Reports consistently rates AT&T service as poor. I've been quite satisfied.
